Frequently Asked Questions
How accurate is IP geolocation?
IP geolocation is generally accurate to the country level in almost all cases. City-level accuracy varies — for most IPs it is within 25-50 miles of the actual location, but some IPs (especially mobile and VPN addresses) may show a location far from where the user actually is.
What is an ASN?
An ASN (Autonomous System Number) identifies a network operated by a single organization, such as an ISP, university, or company. For example, Google's ASN is AS15169. ASNs are used for routing internet traffic between networks.
Why does my IP show the wrong location?
Several factors can cause inaccurate geolocation: using a VPN or proxy, mobile data (which uses carrier infrastructure), corporate networks (which may route through a central office), or simply outdated database records. IP geolocation is an approximation, not GPS-level accuracy.
What is the difference between ISP and ASN?
The ISP is the company providing your internet connection. The ASN is the technical network identifier for the organization managing the IP address block. These are often the same company but not always — large organizations manage their own ASNs even if they use a third-party ISP.
Does this tool work with IPv6 addresses?
Yes, this tool supports both IPv4 and IPv6 addresses. Enter the full IPv6 address in standard notation and the tool will return all available geolocation data.
